“The Tashkent Declaration” – A Murder Mystery

In India’s diplomatic history 11 January 1966 has it’s own importance. It is a date when Prime Minister Of India got dead under suspicious circumstances. His death is still mystery. Let’s check out some important aspects which led the incident towards murder. The Suspects are CIA, KGB, Pakistan and Indira Gandhi (Daughter of Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru).

“Parthiv Sharir” of Honorable Prime Minister Of India Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri and on right side his wife Shreemati Lalita Shastri .Shree

Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri was a second Prime Minister of India. He had took power after the death of first Prime Minister of India Shree Jawaharlal Nehru. He held his term between 1964 to 1966. He led India during Indo -Pakistan war of 1965. India was winning the war and scrunched Pakistan’s Military.

During the war on 17th day Mr. Shastri and Mr. Ayub Khan President of Pakistan accepted the mediation of USSR (Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) instead of USA while the Pakistan was the favorite country of USA in South Asia, you can say Pakistan was a little child of USA. Pakistan used to play in lap of USA during that time(1966). So to sign the Peace Declaration both leader Mr. Shastri and Mr. Ayub Khan arrived at Tashkent of USSR (Now the Capital of Uzbekistan).

On 3rd January 1966 Mr. Shastri flew from India to Tashkent to have a meeting with Ayub Khan. On 10th January 1966 Mr. Shastri and Mr. Ayub Khan successfully signed Peace Declaration till this day everything was normal but on next day 11 January 1966 Mr. Shastri got dead due to fatal “Heart Attack”(As per both Indian and USSR Govt. reports).

Here is that Tashkent Peace Declaration’s original copy…

Why there is a conspiracy in his death???

Everyone knows that It is normal to have heart attack and of course it comes suddenly and no one can predict exact time and date. So why there is conspiracy???

KGB emblem…

After his death KGBKomitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti) the famous spy agency of Russian Federation had given a statement that it seems to be a murder rather then natural death. They also arrested some 4 to 5 persons as a suspect but within 48 hours released everyone. In addition to this speculations some reports were out that said Russia and even India didn’t performed any postmortem of Mr. Shastri’s dead body. When the family of Mr. Shastri received his body, they had seen some cuts on the dorsal side of his neck so they questioned to government authorities and they replied that we don’t know and after his funeral when media houses published articles on his death they clearly stated that the Authority Persons and Mr. Nayar (a journalist who was a part of Mr. Shastri’s Tashkent Delegation and also present on funeral) “didn’t see any kind of cuts on his body” that raises doubt.

Anuj Dhar

There is one more concrete event which increases the possibilities of murder rather than natural heart attack. In 2009 a RTI filed by the Anuj Dhar author of “CIA’s Eye on South Asia” to reveal document about the death of Mr. Shastri but the Indian Government has refused to release such documents and stated that  these details could harm India’s foreign relations and would violate Parliamentary Privilege.

The government had admitted no postmortem was conducted on Shastri. However, his personal doctor R. N. Chugh and some Russian doctors conducted a medical examination. The Russian butler attending on Shastri at the time of his death was arrested for suspected poisoning but released later. It was maintained that Shastri had died of cardiac arrest but his family insisted he was poisoned.

Sunil Shastri

Later on August 2012 Sunil Shastri son of Mr. Lal bahadur Shastri requested government to reveal classified documents related to the death of his father Lal bahadur Shastri from the governments locker But the answer was remained same.

Who are the suspects??? And Why not Indira Gandhi???

Indira Gandhi

Now if we think about the possible guilties of his death then we have 3 suspects 1.Pakistan 2.CIA 3.KGB. You can find some articles that present Indira Gandhi also as a possible suspect but during my investigation i didn’t find a single document which supports this aspect that she has been involved in Mr. Shastri’s Murder though i am not going to put her in suspect’s category but this is also true that Indira Gandhi had been paid by KGB.

What could be the reason of his death???

The time of 1947 to 1970-80 was a very harsh phase because the USA and Russia had aimed to gain more power and to build more support from the emerging and developing world. And this was more vulnerable then the war because in war you know who is your enemy and who is friend but during this phase everything was just intelligence thing, everywhere was spies and they will not harm your military or your sovereignty but will tear up you internally into pieces until you support them and oppose others and opposite side will do same with you.

Specially for India this phase (from 1947 to 1970-80) was worse than worst because India had fought 5 wars 3 with Pakistan( India won all 3) and 2 with China(India won 1 of 1967 and lost of 1962 because of the poor decisions taken by PM Jawaharlal Nehru).

I know that you are thinking that why i’m talking all this??? cause as i already told you that everything was intelligence thing, everywhere was spies so the ans that who killed Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri is somewhere around the Diplomatic relation of India with the world specially with the USA and Russia between 1947 to 1966(till his death).

Let’s take a look inside the diplomatic balance of USA(West) and Russia with India…

Britishers ruled over India for 200 Years and sucked everything from the India and in August 1947 they divided India into Pakistan and left both countries under the flames of religion and thousands of people lost their lives in religious riots.

The slavery of Britishers made Indians Anti-Western so Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru improved India’s diplomatic relation with Soviet rather then west and west also neglected India till around 1957. And till that day India’s relation with Soviet had became concrete. As i already told USA supported and fed Pakistan and empowered it as the competitor of India in South Asia but till 1957 Pakistan failed at all fronts and this will made USA to draw it’s attention from Pakistan to India but due to the Anti-Western flow in India USA decided to spread Intelligence and build strong intelligence network in the Government of India which would make it’s path easy.

On 26th May 1964 India’s Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru worked late into the night in his New Delhi Residence. The following morning a member of Nehru’s Staff discovered him unconscious on his bedroom floor in a pool of blood. An aorta ruptured in Mr. Nehru’s stomach and caused lats of blood loss, later that day Mr. Nehru was pronounced dead.

The death of Anti-Western Prime Minister of India was an opportunity for west to build more friendly relation with India and reduce the influence of Soviet in South Asia. And also don’t forget that it was time of Cold War and during 1962 to 1970 Cold War was at it’s peak.

Who were “elected” by CIA and KGB as the next Prime Minister of India???

Who after Nehru??? This was a biggest question for both West and Soviet. There was only two large political parties in India at that time INC (Indian National Congress) and CPI (Communist Party of India) and the only INC had well renowned leaders who could be next Prime Minister.

CIA had selected Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri as a next Prime Minister of India and to ensure his selection as next PM, ambassador of Britain in India had met President of India Shree Sarvepalli Radhakrishna and told him that He must ensure to USA and Britain that only Shastri would be the next Prime Minister of India and Mr. President of India had assured him that only Mr. Shastri would be the next Prime Minister of India.

During this phase the KGB of Soviet had two choices 1. Shree Lal Bahadur Shastri and 2. Mr. Morarji Desai. KGB was well informed that CIA had chose Mr. Shastri in spite of this KGB also chose Mr. Shastri instead of well enough competitor Mr. Morarji Desai because Moscow had knew that Mr. Desai was a pro democratic leader and was a hardcore Hindu so Moscow supposed that he would be more vulnerable rather then Mr. Shastri.

The wrong turn…

On 9th June 1964 Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri had declared as a second Prime Minister of India. After this every calculation of USA (CIA) and Britain had proved wrong this was a biggest failure of Intelligence network of CIA.

Just after he became Prime Minister Mr. Shastri had significantly improved relations with Moscow rather then USA. He recruited army persons from the training centers of Soviet and increased the defense partnership with Soviet and completely neglected USA and Britain at each and every sector. In addition to this events India had crushed Pakistan during the war of 1965. Indirectly it was defeat of USA because Pakistan was a puppet of USA during 60’s.

India had penetrated deeply in Pakistan so the President of Pakistan Ayub Khan got feared and begged to the world to interfere and mediate this situation. In response to this USA, Britain and Soviet had showed interest to play a role of Mediator. Pakistan and India both accepted the arbitration of Soviet. Please note that Pakistan was a puppet of USA but in spite of this Pakistan selected mediation of Soviet rather then USA and that time was a peak of Cold war and indirectly it was a defeat of USA against Soviet.

Later in Tashkent of USSR, Soviet held peace meeting with Pakistan and India and on 10th January 1966 they signed Peace Declaration and on following day 11th January 1966 early in the morning Mr. Shastri dead because of fatal heart attack.

The Conclusion…..

Everything was against USA. USA lost it’s control in South Asia during the Cold War. And this would led USA to make a plan to kill Indian Prime Minister and what better than that Mr. Shastri was in the land of Soviet and if he would killed in the land of Soviet then it will harm the emerging influence of Soviet in South Asia that’s why CIA killed Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri. And USA thought that after Mr. Shastri the next Prime Minister would be Morarji Desai and of course he was not Pro-Soviet leader. So there was only one hope to build support in South Asia that kill the Indian Prime Minister and draw new premiership in India which would more friendly to the west.

Why i am giving clean chit to KGB???

There was not a single advantage to Moscow from the death of Mr. Shastri. He was anti-western, more friendlier with Moscow and everything in Tashkent was in the surveillance of KGB and they know very well that the death of Indian Prime Minister will damage it’s image in the world. So there is no motif KGB had to kill Mr. Shastri.

Why not Pakistan???

First thing on 14th August 1948 Pakistan came into existence and arranged ISI (Inter Services Intelligence) as a Intelligence Network of Pakistan. This was the beginning of ISI they didn’t had well intelligence network in the world. Second KGB was more efficient intelligence agency then the CIA and everything in Tashkent were in the surveillance of KGB only CIA could breech that as they did. Third and the last Pakistan was happy with this peace declaration because it saved Pakistan from the brave hands of Indian Army. So Pakistan also didn’t had any motif to kill him.
